Terry Kinney was born on January 29, 1954 in Lincoln, Illinois. He is the son of Kenneth C. Kinney and his wife Elizabeth, and his father worked for a tractor company. Terry would later go on to found the Steppenwolf Theatre Company together with fellow performers Gary Sinise and Jeff Perry. He used to be married to Kathryn Erbe until 2006, and had two children with her. After they divorced, Kinney became involved with Elizabeth Perkins. He has been nominated for a Tony Award, and has worked on television series such as
CSI: NY, Homicide: Life on the Street, and Miami Vice.
Tim McManus is portrayed by Terry Kinney in the HBO prison drama television series Oz. He is the idealistic manager of Emerald City who is distinctly different from his fellow prison staff members. McManus has never worked before as a correctional officer, was able to receive a college education and is a liberal-minded individual who has faith in the inmates’ humanity. He constantly works to try and rehabilitate the prisoners, rather than simply punish and contain them for their past deeds. While he often finds himself at odds with Warden Leo Glynn, McManus usually manages to come out relatively unscathed. He also has a reputation as a womanizer.
