BuddyTV is looking at the 17 new shows the major networks will premiere this Fall to see which ones are worth getting excited about and which ones we have low expectations for.
Show Description: From producer Ashton Kutcher,
Opportunity Knocks seeks to reinvent the game show as we know it. Host J.D. Roth travels in a semi-truck to "Anywhere, America," searching for regular families to compete for various prizes. Hollywood invades suburbia, and once the game begins, competing families will be asks trivia questions that relate directly to their own lives.
When: Tuesdays at 8pm on ABC
Cast: J.D. Roth (host)
Anticipation: Very, very, very low. Ashton Kutcher has his hand in all sorts of upcoming television projects, and
Opportunity Knocks is probably the least likely to succeed. The series feels similar to another ABC series (
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition) only, instead of doing good,
Opportunity Knocks asks families personal questions for
Price is Right-style prizes (giving suburban families furniture seems like a waste of wood).
Similar Shows: As stated above,
Opportunity Knocks and
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition share the whole "Hollywood invades suburbia" vibe. Other than that, there's not much precedent for this "traveling game show," which is probably why ABC was so willing to order a season of the series.
