Barbara Alyn Woods as
Deb Scott Born on March 11, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois, Barbara Alyn Woods began acting at the Victory Gardens Theater in her hometown. Since then, she has appeared on film and television, garnering extensive acting experience. Her early appearances were in television shows where she played minor roles. These include Star Trek: The Next Generation, Married with Children, Herman's Head, Vinnie & Bobby, Wings, Sweating Bullets, Picket Fences and Seinfeld. She later on appeared in Touched by an Angel, Ally McBeal and Providence.
About.com had the opportunity to talk to the actress, who said that the first thing one needs to do to engage in the business is to "Get rid of the stars in your eyes. If you want to be an actor, don't think about becoming a starlet, think about learning your craft and gaining experience wherever you can....community theater and classes. On a much larger scale, start dabbling in some commercials. Don't move to New York or Los Angeles and think you're going to become a star overnight because the smaller steps you take, the more staying power you'll have."
Woods is best known for her three-year portrayal of Diane Szalinski in Honey I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show. Her notable work also includes that in I Downloaded a Ghost, where she played Kathleen Flanagan. In 2003, Woods landed the role of Deb Scott in the teen drama, One Tree Hill.
In the same interview, Woods talked about her work on I Shrunk the Kids, and she said, "I loved doing the show, 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids' because I played different characters just about every week. I turned into animals, aliens, they shrank us, they enlarged us, I was a bearded lady in a circus, I turned into a cat - it was such a great actress experience for three years. It was a lot of fun, it wasn't a high profile show, and we had such a great time shooting it. I met my husband on the set, so it meant a lot emotionally."
In 1999, Woods married John Lind at the Banff Springs Hotel on Labour Day. He was an assistant director from Vancouver who worked on the film Shanhai Noon. They currently reside in Wilmington, North Carolina with their two daughters.
