Though I'm a huge fan of all the drama present on
One Tree Hill, I have to be honest when certain storylines or characters are getting on my nerves. In season 5, nothing is annoying me more than the seemingly endless love triangle between Lucas, Lindsey, and Peyton. This particular story has been running in circles like a merry-go-round for 15 episodes, and I think last night I finally reached my breaking point. I simply cannot handle another scene of Lucas (
Chad Michael Murray) moping over his failed relationship to Lindsey while Peyton stands in the background pining over him. After an entire season of this, I'm about ready to toss my television out the window if the love triangle doesn't wrap up quickly.

Lucas needs to get his head out of his butt, and realize Peyton is the one for him. She's always been the one!

Not only is the Lucas/Peyton/Lindsey story becoming extremely repetitive, but it's also turning Lucas and Peyton into unbearable characters. Peyton (
Hilarie Burton) comes across as weak and unable to get over her ex-boyfriend, while Lucas seems like an idiot for not realizing that Lindsey isn't his true love. Strangely enough, Lindsey is the only character who appears to be intelligent and sane in this entire situation. She's the one who was smart enough to break things off with Lucas, and she continues to have the strength to resist getting back together with him. Good for her.
After last night's episode, "Life Is Short," I got the impression that Lindsey may be gone for good. She returned Lucas's house key, turned down his umpteenth plea for a rekindling of their romance, and walked out of his life. While this gives me some hope that the love triangle is dead, I still think I'm destined to suffer through more scenes of Lucas moping and Peyton pining. He's probably going to be sulking over Lindsey for a while, and in the meantime I'm sure Peyton will refuse to have any fun of her own.
There are two solutions to this problem: 1) Get Lucas and Peyton back together, or 2) Get Peyton a new man. Aside from her one fairly awkward evening with Chase, Peyton hasn't had any romantic adventures all season. Of course, if Peyton found a new guy it could just start up a Lucas/Peyton/New Guy triangle, and then I'd rip my hair out all over again.
It looks like the only real solution to this issue is to get Lucas and Peyton back together. If it's not done quickly, my TV may end up smashed on the pavement during next Monday's episode of
One Tree Hill.
Has this love triangle gone on too long?
