The mohawk that Lucas was sporting in the fifth season finale of One Tree Hill wasn't the only terrifying thing about the episode.  Fans were left flabbergasted when Dan, who was desperately in need of a new heart, got struck down by a speeding car just moments before his transplant was ready.  Juicy teen dramas like One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl need fantastic villains to cause trouble among the characters, and that's a role Dan has excelled at for five seasons.  Though the show has threatened to kill him off about 25 times before, we wondered if the writers were actually planning to go through with it this time.

Thanks to Kristin at E!Online, we don't have to wait all summer to find out what happens to Dan.  She recently posted a spoiler regarding Dan's fate, and it's bound to leave some One Tree Hill fans disappointed.

According to Kristin's sources, it's "98.8 percent" certain that Dan will survive and be back next year.  This is great news for me, as I'm practically president of the Dan fan club.  It's also wonderful news for actor Paul Johansson, who told Kristin, "Dan is almost immortal.  How can Dan die?  He's the liaison between Lucifer and the world!"  What a wonderful twist that would be if Dan actually was Satan's minion.  Quick, somebody call the Winchester brothers!  Or that guy from Reaper!

Kristin didn't have any information about how Dan will survive, but the fact that he got run over right outside the hospital probably helps.  All they have to do is wheel him in, fix his injuries, pop in his new heart, and he'll be back to causing trouble in no time.  Of course, that's assuming he plans to cause trouble.  Aside from nearly killing a Reverend, Dan was rather tame in season 5 as he focused on mending things with his family. However, it's possible that being run over will bring out his devilish side once again.

While some of One Tree Hill's season 5 mysteries remain unanswered, such as why Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) was shirtless and getting drunk with a dog in the finale, I'm happy to have this one cleared up.  Let's hope that Dan gets back on his feet and starts threatening to kill people within the first few episodes of season 6.
