Dan picks up the gun and gets contemplative, claiming that he might as well be dead because living in Tree Hill is his Hell, being forced to watch the happiest moments of his sons' lives knowing he can't share in any of that joy. For me, Tree Hill only feels like Hell when Mouth is on my screen.
He points the gun at his head but can't pull the trigger, so he shoves the gun into Whitey's hand and begs him to put him out of his misery. Whitey doesn't do it, instead giving Danny a big old bear hug, believing there's still hope for redemption.
Adding insult to injury, when Dan leaves, he passes Nathan, who says he's there to tell his coach that he made it to the NBA. I've been suspicious of Dan's motives for most of his illness, but now I can only weep and pray that he is forgiven, because he is truly in Hell suffering more than any man deserves.
Dan takes one last stab at connecting with his family by visiting Peyton and asking to hold his granddaughter. She refuses until he tells her that little Sawyer Scott is the only person in Dan's world that doesn't know what he did. His breath is taken away by the beauty of the baby.
Dan's world apology tour concludes when he apologizes to Peyton for the fact that one day she'll have to tell her daughter about him. As he leaves, he runs into Karen and Lucas, who glare at hime and just walk away. And just like that, One Tree Hill was successfully made me feel bad for a murderer.
In rather unimportant and boring relationship news, Millie doesn't want to go back to New York, so she asks Brooke for her old job back, gets it, and Millie moves back in with Mouth. Thankfully, that only wasted about one minute of valuable screentime.
