One Tree Hill: Episode 6.9 "Sympathy for the Devil" Recap (Page 2/3)
Back in the present, Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) spends three weeks writing the screenplay for An Unkindness of Ravens and hands it over to Julian.  The producer thinks the movie needs to feature a scene where Dan kills Keith, but Lucas is reluctant to include such a tragic event in his script.  In an effort to remember Dan as anything other than a monster, Lucas visits Nathan (James Lafferty) to ask him about his fondest memory of their father.  Nathan will never forget the time Dan pulled some strings and arranged a meeting with Michael Jordan, which is really more of an awesome celebrity encounter than a touching father-son moment.  Lucas isn't convinced he can write Dan as an actual person with a soul, and Nathan assures him he doesn't have to.

Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) is brave enough to let Sam watch Jamie for a few minutes after class wraps up, which allows the teen to teach him a shady money making scheme.  Sam buys a bunch of snacks from the vending machine, plugs the coin slot up with gum, then sells the food to hungry students for four times the regular price.  It's brilliant, but it also makes Twinkies as sought after as smack.  Haley isn't happy when she discovers that her son has become a dealer of Hostess products, but her heart melts when he explains that he just wants the money to buy his daddy a Slamball trophy.

While brooding in the hallway where Keith was shot, Lucas rants to Haley about his inability to make Dan seem conflicted and three-dimensional in his screenplay.  Apparently, Dan should be portrayed as a moustache-twirling villain who ties innocent young virgins to train tracks.  Later, Lucas tells Peyton that he doesn't actually know what happened in Keith's final moments, so he doesn't feel capable of creating them for the big screen.  He has no idea what to do, but he finds a modicum of comfort when he heads to the cemetery and beats Dan's garish headstone with a shovel.  Dan (Paul Johansson) meets with his son later and tells him to paint Keith as the tragic hero.  After all, every good story needs a villain, and Dan is the best baddie Tree Hill has ever had.
