Teens Go Through Grief Counseling on 'One Life to Live'

Kristen Alderson and Brandon Buddy on One Life to LiveGrief has become a binding factor for One Life to Live's Langston (Brittany Underwood) and Cole (Brandon Buddy).  However, while their common experience of loss has given them the opportunity to be a source of comfort for one another, it has also excluded their friend Starr (Kristen Alderson).  The tension between the three will only continue to build, what with Langston and Cole attending grief counseling.

“When I read the script I got a little chill, like, "Ugh, I would not like that, either," Alderson told Soap Opera Weekly, referring to Starr's exclusion from grief counseling.  “But it's good stuff and really interesting to see how Starr has a whole bunch of emotions about it.  She's going through a tough time.”

As Alderson's Starr goes through her “tough time,” she's been quick to take out her frustration on Langston.

“Best friends always have arguments.  Starr prefers things her way,” Alderson said.  “Also, she's so close with Cole and loves him so much.  If another girl says she knows what Cole would do it's like, ‘No! You don't know what Cole would do, I know what Cole would do.'  It was, ‘Don't act like you know him better than me.'  She was being very protective.”

Underwood herself said that she understands why Starr has been treating her character rather unwell lately.

“I understand why she was upset,” Brittany Underwood told Soap Opera Weekly.  “All Starr wants to do is help and be there.  There's not so much that Starr can do, because Langston knows more about [losing a parent].  Starr hates not being able to relate or understand the way Langston can understand Cole.”

Filming the grief counseling scenes for One Life to Live proved to be a “weird” and somewhat “scary” experience for Brittany Underwood, especially when it began to feel all too real.

“It was a small group of people. I was nervous to have only a handful of kids in this small circle, all looking at me.  It felt like we were really there, like we really had to share this with people we didn't know in this small space,” she explained.  “It's a little scary.”
