Born John-Paul Seponski on March 12, 1979 in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, John-Paul Lavoisier was educated at Phoenixville High School, and later attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia as a percussion major. He eventually dropped out to pursue a career as a model. While in college, he had his first encounter with performing as he was greatly interested in doing magic tricks. Even though he didn’t become the next David Copperfield, he rose to fame as a stage, film, and television actor. Along with Streetlight Productions, Inc., he performed on various off-Broadway productions such as Discordant Duets and Counterfeit Garden.
John-Paul Lavoisier first landed a role as a guest star in the series All My Children. He followed this up with a performance on the hit HBO show, Sex and the City. While there, he acted alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon on the episode titled “Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda.” Since 2002, Lavoisier has played the role of Rex Balsom on the ABC soap opera One Life to Live. His character is that of a money-hungry and scheming man who pretended to be the long-lost brother of Jessica Buchanan. While appearing on the soap, John-Paul Lavoisier was given a role in the TV production, One Day in May. His next project became the action thriller Wolves of Wall Street, directed by David DeCoteau. He later got a small role in the popular series Gossip Girl, appearing as a field hockey coach in 2007. The next year, he was cast as Jason in the dramatic comedy Placebo, written and directed by Keith Feighan.
Some of Lavoisier’s hobbies include tennis and skiing, and he has also said that if he wasn’t acting, he would be a professional golfer. In an interview, he claimed that he was anal retentive, and is not very fond of running and being in the suburbs.
