For months now on ABC's
One Life to Live,
Kathy Brier's Marcie McBain has been on-the-run with her adopted son, Tommy, in the hopes of alluding Todd Manning (
Trevor St. John), Tommy's biological father. Filming has been more intense and tiring since the particular storyline began, most especially for Brier.
“I'm so exhausted from them, frankly,” Brier said of her scenes in an interview with
Soap Opera Weekly. “And what was tough about them was that we filmed a majority of them over three days — and most of the days were 12-16 hours long. I wished it was more spread out. It was exhausting.”
Despite this, however, Kathy Brier is happy about the development in her character, saying that the storyline “has been a gift.”
“It's been an amazing storyline,” she said. “I can't remember the last day I went to working thinking, ‘I don't like this.' It's so well-written.”
Brier is not the only one who appreciates her current storyline on
One Life to Live.
“When I was at Super Soap I met a woman who had adopted a baby and had the child taken away because the [birth] parents came back and won custody,” Brier recounted to
Soap Opera Weekly. “This woman was lucky enough to have more children, but she said she thought had she not, she probably would have done something very similar.”
Although not a mother in real life, Brier has assumed the role on the set, as she often finds herself responsible for her Luke Kendler and Jacob Cook Clodfelter, the twins who play Tommy.
“I'm not a mom, but working with these kids you do become their protector,” she said. “When they are on the set, I am their ‘mom.' They depend on me. I can understand in Marcie's mind that Tommy depends on her and that she, in a way, depends on him.”
