Fans of Grammy-winning artist Mary J. Blige will want to tune in to ABC's
One Life to Live in the coming weeks. The singer-songwriter is making her way back to the soap, where she will perform two songs from her latest CD.
Blige's return to
One Life to Live marks her second time to appear in the daytime drama in less than two years. Blige, who admits to being a fan of the show, made her first appearance back in July 2006.
"Mary J. Blige is one of the most prominent and powerful voices in the music industry," executive producer Frank Valentini said. "She is an inspiration in both her music and her life, and we are thrilled to welcome her back to
One Life to Live."
On Thursday, January 17, Blige headed to the Manhattan Studio where the soap is filmed and shot her special cameo that will air during the February Sweeps period. Come that time, viewers will see Blige and her band performing two songs from her album, “Growing Pains,” at the fictional Llanview club, Capricorn. The first song, “Just Fine,” is the album's first single – and a Grammy-nominated one at that. The second track is “Hurt Again,” which has a slower tempo.
Blige's “Growing Pains” was released on December 21, selling 629,000 copies in its first week out. The album is the 37-year-old music artist's eighth Billboard-topping CD in the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It is also the fourth chart topper on the Billboard 200 chart.
Of her re-appearance on
One Life to Live, Blige said in a statement, “It's absolutely amazing to be integrated into a soap opera I've watched since I was a little girl. I am beyond thrilled to be welcomed back again."
Blige will guest-star in two episodes, airing Friday, February 15 and Monday, February 18. She will appear as a surprise guest at Starr Manning's (
Kristen Alderson) birthday celebration.
