Storybrooke has Frozen over on Once Upon a Time in season 4, and Jennifer Morrison and creators/executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis were at New York Comic Con to tease what’s still coming up. BuddyTV was at the panel to get you the scoop.

After a screening of this coming Sunday’s episode, they teased what’s to come for Hook, Rumpelstiltskin and Hook, Emma and Regina, Belle and more.

The Frozen Mythology

“You’re going to see the story develop in its own Once Upon a Time way,” Kitsis said of what’s coming up regarding the Frozen characters. “We wanted it to feel consistent with the movie that the whole world fell in love with last year,” Horowitz added.

Olaf isn’t coming to OUAT. “I don’t believe we will be seeing Olaf,” Kitsis said, but he may be “obliquely referred to.” We will meet others from the Frozen world, though.

Hook and Emma’s First Date

Hook will be inspired by Emma, but next week, we’ll see more of his pirate side. We’ll also see “Emma and Hook’s first proper date,” and no, it won’t be at Granny’s.

Hook and Rumpelstiltskin’s Past

Next week, the “not … very pleasant” history between Rumpelstiltskin and Hook begins to be revisited. It’s a Rumple and Hook-heavy episode.

The EPs described Rumpelstiltskin’s journey as “tumultuous” and about “self-interest.” Next week, we’ll learn that everything he is doing is for a reason; it’s “for the benefit of himself.”

Emma and Regina’s Changing Relationship

The show started with the conflict between Emma and Regina and their growing, changing relationship. There is an episode coming up where they explore that, taking off on the idea from the premiere that Emma believes she has to bring everyone their happy ending, including Regina. “We’re all capable of both” good and evil, Kitsis said. There has been growth with both characters, and they’re going to grow this year as people.

“Obviously, Regina and Emma have come a long way together from” season 1, Morrison agreed. They have a lot in common — both have made mistakes, struggled and wanted to find the better versions of themselves. Until Elsa arrived, Emma only had Regina to relate to when it came to her powers. “You’re going to see Emma really fight to prove to Regina she wants to be her friend.”

Other Notes from the Panel

“I feel like Emma’s powers come from a very guttural place,” Morrison said, adding that a lot of magic seems to be nonchalant on the show.

“There are some really good twists coming,” she also teased.

Kitsis thanked the fans “for staying with us.”

They reiterated that August is not the writer of the book; he just altered it. “He gets no royalties,” Horowitz joked.

We’ll briefly meet Belle’s mom and “see why Belle became a hero, wanted to be a hero.”

Operation Mongoose is “a rather big story for the year,” so while the season is split, this isn’t.

Once Upon a Time season 4 airs Sundays at 8pm on ABC.

If it’s on TV — especially if it’s a procedural or superhero show — chances are Meredith watches it. She has a love for all things fiction, starting from a young age with ER and The X-Files on the small screen and the Nancy Drew books. Arrow kicked off the Arrowverse and her true passion for all things heroes. She’s enjoyed getting into the minds of serial killers since Criminal Minds, so it should be no surprise that her latest obsession is Prodigal Son.
