The candy killer storyline has come to an end on Once Upon a Time. "Chosen" focused on Zelena and her wicked past and the target on her back. While Zelena grappled with her past mistakes, Detective Rogers hunted down the serial killer. Nick (Jack/Hansel) was arrested and then killed by Dr. Facilier. This story arc was pretty dark for Once Upon a Time. Will the last half of the season lighten up, or will Dr. Facilier lead a new dark storyline?
Dr. Facilier was the one who brought Nick's memories back. He intended for him to kill Mother Gothel. However, after Nick was caught, Dr. Facilier disposed of his pawn. We now know that Facilier and Gothel are in competition for the Dark One's blade. The question is, what are they planning on doing with it? Both are villains, and both crave power. However, Dr. Facilier is a little bit of a mystery. Does he really care about Regina? Or is he using her to get closer to both Weaver (Rumpelstiltskin) and Mother Gothel? Is he actually going to help Regina cure Henry? It seems as though Dr. Facilier is only interested in obtaining more power for himself and is most likely just using Regina as one of his pawns.
Dr. Facilier is still using Drew (Naveen) as well. He has him positioned near Sabine (Tiana.) What does he have planned for Drew? In "Chosen," Facilier refused to release Drew. Could he be trying to get closer to Henry and Jacinda? It seems like Facilier, rather than Gothel, is the villain to watch out for this season. Once Upon a Time may continue to get darker as Dr. Facilier works his way to Rumplestiltskin's dagger. Who knows how many he will kill in order to obtain it.
Between murderous grandmothers and a serial killer, season 7 has been significantly darker than previous seasons of Once Upon a Time. Perhaps that degree of darkness will come to an end now that Regina has found a way to save Henry. Hopefully, the curse will be broken soon and Henry will be able to help Regina and Rumpelstiltskin deal with Dr. Facilier.
