Thanks to a news broadcast, I missed the first 10 minutes of tonight's episode of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland
. Once I finally join the episode, we are in a flashback to Cyrus' past in Agrabah. Cyrus and his brothers are going off on a dangerous mission to find something that could save their mother's life. Cyrus' brothers are hesitant to take the risk, but Cyrus feels guilty that his mistake led to their mother's injury and he needs to atone for this by saving her life.
The brothers arrive at the Well of Wonders. The water in the well is said to have magical healing properties and they want to use it to save their mother. But the well has a guardian named Nyx. She tells the brothers that the water will only heal those whose destiny has not been written. She says that does not apply to their mother because her fate has already been sealed and she will die. Nyx tells them to put the water back or pay the price. Cyrus, being Cyrus, decides to take the water anyway.
Cyrus and his brothers give their mother the water from the well and it does indeed heal her. What we see once she is healed is that Cyrus' mother is Jafar's old partner Amara. When Amara learns that her sons stole the water from the well, she tries to save them, but Nyx already knows what they have done. Because they let their own desires override fate, Nyx curses the brothers into the bottles, forever fated to serve the desires of others.
If you remember the last time we saw Amara, she sought Jafar's help because she needed three genies for a spell. Now that we know Amara is Cyrus' mother, we can assume that the real reason she was seeking the three genies is because they are her sons. What will Jafar do if he figures out Cyrus' connection to Amara? Did Amara gain her powers thanks to the magical water, or was she a sorceress before she was healed?Anastasia vs. the Jabberwocky
Anastasia and Will track down the White Rabbit because they need his help. Anastasia apologizes for everything she did to the rabbit and his family. She wants to make things better by defeating Jafar and turning Wonderland over to the people. But the White Rabbit tells her that she has bigger problems than defeating Jafar, since Jafar has released the Jabberwocky. Anastastia freaks out, but insists on staying in Wonderland to help.
Anastasia and Will are walking through the woods when Anastasia senses the Jabberwocky. Anastasia sends Will back into his bottle to protect him while she battles the Jabberwocky. Anastasia makes a valiant effort to beat the Jabberwocky, but the Jabberwocky has plenty of tricks up her sleeve. The Jabberwocky knocks Anastasia out and picks up Will's bottle.
The Jabberwocky takes Will and Anastasia to Jafar. Anastasia tries to make a deal with him, but he is not interested. Jafar sics the Jabberwocky on Anastasia in order to force her into making her three wishes. Anastasia does not break when the Jabberwocky threatens her, but when the Jabberwocky goes after Will, Anastasia caves. She makes her three wishes and Will is sent back into his bottle. Jafar now has three genies and he is ready to begin his spell.
Meanwhile, Anastasia tells her Tweedle to warn Alice and Cyrus about the Jabberwocky. She wants them to get out of Wonderland and never look back. Will Anastasia's Tweedle get to Alice and Cyrus in time, or will the Jabberwocky find them first?
Once Upon a Time in Wonderland: Cyrus and Alice's Reunion Was Anticlimactic-How ABC Should Have Done It >>>You Will Find No Mercy Here
To free his brothers from their bottles, Alice and Cyrus are headed to the well of wonders in Wonderland, because apparently these wells exist in more than one place. Alice asks Cyrus if he or his brothers did anything to get them cursed into the bottle, but Cyrus says they did not. Alice knows that Cyrus is keeping something from her, but she cannot figure out what it is. They arrive at the well of wonders, but once they break the riddle to gain entry, Cyrus tells Alice to stay behind.
Once Cyrus summons Nyx from the Wonderland well, he begs her to show mercy on his brothers and free them from their curse. Cyrus explains that his brothers were innocent and only went along with his plan to steal the water. But Nyx is not moved. She says that the only way to break the curse is to return the water they stole. Cyrus does not understand how that is possible, since they gave the water to their mother and she died a long time ago. This is when Nyx tells Cyrus that his mother is still alive.
When Nyx ignores Cyrus' pleas to tell him where his mother is, Cyrus breaks down. Alice, having heard Cyrus' conversation with Nyx, knows that he was cursed because he stole the water. Alice and Cyrus bond over the mistakes of their past, but Alice says they need to focus on the future. Their new mission is to find Amara.
