Director David Frankel, most recently known for his work on the hit film
The Devil Wears Prada, has been named the guest judge of tonight’s episode of
On the Lot.
Frankel will join the show’s regular judges, actress
Carrie Fisher and director Garry Marshall, in evaluating the remaining 15 finalists.
A native of New York City, Frankel, 48, is the son of former New York Times executive editor and columnist Max Frankel. His directorial projects include films like Miami Rhapsody, Dear Diary and Just Like You Imagined, and episodes of various television series such as Entourage and Sex and the City. Aside from directing, Frankel has also worked as a screenwriter and an executive producer.
Because of the show’s poor ratings, the network has been forced to restructure On the Lot. Instead of having hour-long “Film Premiere” episodes every Monday night (that were supposed to be followed by half-hour long “Box Office” results show on Tuesday nights), the Fox network decided to have hour-long episodes of On the Lot air each week. The change in structure began on last week’s June 5th broadcast.
Additionally, three groups have been made out of the 15 remaining finalists. Among the first group of five were 29 year-old Adam Stein, a freelance editor from Los Angeles, California, 27 year-old Sam Friedlander, a web producer from Santa Monica, California, 37 year-old Hilary Graham, a stay-at-home mom from Francestown, New Hampshire, 24 year-old Trever James, a film editor from Los Angeles, California and lastly, 30 year-old Shalini Kantayya, a freelance director from Brooklyn, New York.
The five-minute personal films of the first group were aired last week, and subsequently, viewers were allowed to vote for their favorites. The finalist with least number of votes will be forced to leave the competition.
The Fox network has yet to announce the second group of five who will be submitting their five-minute personal films this week.
