Olympics 2012: Fun Ideas for Olympic Viewing Parties
Can't make it to London for the Olympic Games? Neither did the other 4 billion people who will be tuning in to watch the opening ceremonies on Friday. Just because you can't watch the games in person doesn't mean you can't get into the spirit, though. Throwing an Olympic viewing party is a great excuse to spend some quality time with loved ones, watch the world's greatest athletes kick some serious butt and partake of an adult beverage or two. So what are some fun activities that you can incorporate into your Olympic viewing party?

Olympic themed cocktails are a great way to get the party started. Since the five interlocking-rings that symbolize the Olympic Games are each a different color, you can mix a drink that matches each one. Don't be afraid to get creative here! With so many choices, there's bound to be a drink for everyone. Here's a list of the Olympic Ring colors and a drink idea for each one:

Blue -- Blue Hawaiian (mix rum, Blue Curacao, coconut cream and pineapple juice)

Gold -- Apple Pie Shots (mix Everclear, apple juice, apple cider and cinnamon)

Black -- Black Tequila Shots (use Blavod Tequila for these, as Blavod is a dark black color)

Green -- Green Appletini (mix vodka, apple schnapps, lime juice and melon liqueur)

Red -- Red Sangria (mix red wine, fruit and citrus flavored soda)

Another party idea is to serve some British foods. Mix it up a little! Try serving a couple traditional foods everyone will enjoy, like fish and chips or pub grub. Then you can throw in a couple off-the-wall foods, like toad in the hole, Eton mess, Yorkshire pudding or Scotch eggs. Kind of makes your mouth water already, huh?

Want to enjoy watching the Olympic Games with your friends and family, but don't want to have the party at your house? You may not have to look very hard to find a solution. Lots of local restaurants and pubs are getting into the Olympic spirit and getting ready to celebrate the Games with their own viewing parties, food and drink specials and Olympic-inspired menus. All you need to do is show up!
