After playing Donna Pinciotti on
That 70s Show for 8 seasons,
Laura Prepon made her way back into the small screen by landing the role of Hannah Daniels on the ABC drama,
October Road. The show is about a writer who returns to his hometown after ten long years to face family and old friends, and the heartwarming story has made a fan out of Prepon herself.
"I truly love it and I do like that it's a family, relationship drama 'cause it's real," she told the
Oregon Daily Emerald in a phone interview. "People can watch it and relate to it, so I really like that."
The writer at the center of
October Road is Nick Garrett (
Bryan Greenberg). Nick's homecoming is bittersweet, having damaged his relationships by using his family and friends as characters in his successful novel.
Among the people Nick has transgressed is Prepon's Hannah. Before he left town ten years ago, he promised Hannah, his high school sweetheart, that he would return after six weeks. That promise, of course, was not fulfilled, and Hannah was left to move on with her life, and is busy raising her son, Sam (
Slade Pearce). She is also romantically involved Ray Cataldo (
Warren Christie), the high school bully, although still harboring feelings for Nick.
Laura Prepon said she is often asked who her character will end up with, and revealed that her mother is actually rooting for Cataldo.
"He really cares about Hannah and Sam," she said. "He wants a family. He seems like he's the whole package for her even though she's in love with Nick. Nick is kind of not ready to handle everything."
Then, there's also the lingering question of just who Sam's father is. Considering Sam's age, there's a possibility that Nick is the father, but the situation is made even more complex by Cataldo's desire to adopt Sam.
"I think she's apprehensive [about the adoption idea] because they're going to have to do a paternity test, which she doesn't want to do," Prepon said.
