'Numb3rs' Star Heads to La Verne College of Law
Numb3rs star David Krumholtz dropped by the University of La Verne College of Law on Monday, September 10 in order to lead a discussion about the importance of entertainment attorneys to Hollywood actors.

"Hollywood is a really cut-throat business," Krumholtz said to a group of students and faculty and staff members.  "As a lawyer, you have an actor's livelihood in your hands.  You're the most essential cog in the wheel."

Krumholtz, who plays a math genius on CBS' Numb3rs, also said that what students are learning in law schools will prove to be a “lucrative tool in a very big business.

During the talk, the 29-year-old actor covered a wide range of topics, including the role of entertainment attorneys, litigation, the role of the Screen Actors Guild, the relationship between actors and studios, the partnership between an actor's attorney, manager and agent, and the various methods actors use in finding and hiring entertainment attorneys.

David Krumholtz also touched on the financial aspects of the job, such as salaries, commissions, residuals and fees, as well as offered advice to students who are thinking of pursuing a career in entertainment law.  He, in addition, talked about the professional relationship he has with his own attorney.

"In seven years, my lawyer has never not taken my phone call.  It's astounding,” the Numb3rs star told the crowd.  “I've only called twice when he was unavailable, and both times, he's called me back the same day.”

Anita Stuppler, a ULV College of Law Professor and Bar Exam coordinator, was the one who recruited David Krumholtz to serve as the guest speaker.  Stuppler worked as an extra on Numb3rs, and is a member of the Screen Actors Guild.  She also serves as a faculty advisor for the College of Law's Sports & Entertainment Law Society, which sponsored the event.

"I knew David would be a wonderful speaker for the Sports & Entertainment Law Society and the College of Law, because as a young successful actor, he could relate to the law school's students," Stuppler said.
