The network has renewed Nikita
and The Carrie Diaries
, its last two outstanding dramas. Nikita
will return for season 4 while The Carrie Diaries
gets a surprise reprieve for season 2.
Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.
While details on their lengths are unknown, Nikita creator Craig Silverstein tweeted that its return would be for a shortened season an "an incredible finish." So it sounds like it's getting a trimmed-down fourth and final season.
The two join Arrow
, The Vampire Diaries
, Beauty and the Beast
and Hart of Dixie
on the list of returning shows. In addition, the CW has ordered five new dramas: The Vampire Diaries
spin-off The Originals
, The Tomorrow People
, The 100

.The CW Orders New Shows for 2013-2014 Season>>
With 12 shows and only 10 hours to fill, clearly two shows will be held off until mid-season. Now the only question is what shows will go where. In an odd way, I think The Carrie Diaries
could pair nicely together, both period dramas about young girls finding love in a new city (one is in 1980s New York, the other in 16th century France). The short order for Nikita ensures it's one of the half-season shows, but what else will join it?
As for the rest, there are some obvious choices. Arrow and The Tomorrow People are both about superheroes and both star guys named Amell (cousins Stephen and Robbie). The Vampire Diaries and The Originals pair nicely. That leaves Supernatural, Beauty and the Beast, Nikita, The 100, Star-Crossed and Hart of Dixie. One of those things is not like the others, so it'll be curious to see how Dixie, the lone comedic offering, gets treated. Star-Crossed, a love story between a human and an alien in high school, seems like the only potential companion.
What do you think about the CW's 2013-2014 roster? Are you happy about the seven shows returning? Are you excited about the five new ones? Which two shows do you think should be held until mid-season?
