Every fall, the networks bring us a fresh crop of comedies in an attempt to make us laugh. Once in awhile, they succeed beyond their wildest dreams. And then we get a comedy full of vibrant characters that can make us laugh until we cry.

If you plan to watch FOX's New Girl -- debuting at 9pm on Tuesday, September 20 -- be sure to have some tissues handy. Because you can count on tear-inducing laughter from what is easily the best new comedy of this fall.

New Girl chronicles the misadventures of Jess (Zooey Deschanel), a dorky young teacher who bounces from a bad breakup into an apartment filled with men. The three men (played by Max Greenfield, Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. in the pilot) initially welcome their new roommate due to her friendship with a model (yes, they're that shallow). Soon, however, they come to appreciate Jess for her own quirky self.

That's all well and good, but why exactly should you watch? Here are five reasons why you simply cannot miss New Girl:

1. Zooey Deschanel as Jess
Seriously, unless you are one of those soulless monsters holding on to an incomprehensible hatred of Zooey Deschanel, you will love Jess. She's funny, bizarre and beautiful in a nonthreatening way. Also, Jess is adorable. Totally and completely adorable.

2. The Guys
In a lesser comedy, Jess' three male roommates would be nothing more than caricatures. In New Girl, they come across as three very different (all immature) men. You actually want to hang out with these guys.

3. The Douchebag Jar
One of Jess' new roommates is, simply put, a douchebag. Schmidt (Max Greenfield) is a sexist, horny jerk (except for when he is unexpectedly sweet). His roommates deal with this via the medium of a "Douchebag Jar," into which Schmidt must donate money for each douchy comment. It's kind of awesome.

4. CeCe, the Model
I didn't expect to like Jess' model friend, CeCe, at all. Then that lady, played by Hannah Simone, came onto the screen and blew me away with her almost-scary, deadpan delivery. It will be fun to watch the guys fail to get anywhere with CeCe throughout the season.

5. Dirty Dancing
Any show that expresses this much love for Dirty Dancing must be good.

If five reasons are not enough for you, feel free to add in the writing (spot-on), porn movie-parody beginning, theme song (written and performed by Zooey Deschanel) and about a hundred other good things crammed into the first episode of New Girl.

Some comedies aren't for everybody. But nobody who appreciates humor could fail to fall for New Girl.

Also returning tonight is Raising Hope and we've got 5 great reasons for you to tune in.
