Stephen McKinley Henderson, who was born on August 31, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri, hails from the Juilliard Drama School and the North Carolina School of the Arts. He is commonly known as Arthur in the HBO film, Everyday People and has also appeared in Marie, A Raisin in the Sun, and Keane. His television credits include appearances in New York News, Third Watch, Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Conviction.

Omar is played by Stephen Henderson in the television series New Amsterdam. Omar is a sage jazz club owner who keeps the secret of John Amsterdam, the man who has lived in New York for over three hundred years due to a spell that was cast upon him in return for saving a young Indian girl's life back in 1642. Omar is John's sole confidante and current lifelong friend who holds more mysteries than anyone could ever imagine.
