Danish actor Nikolaj Coster Waldau was born on July 27, 1970 in Denmark and has appeared in numerous films and productions since the early 1990s. He has appeared in several Danish productions, and a few English ones such as Black Hawk Down, where he played Gordon, Rembrandt where he played Kenneth, Kingdom of Heaven where he played a village sheriff and Firewall, where he played Liam. In 2007, Waldau was given the lead role in New Amsterdam, a new series from FOX.
John Amsterdam is played by Nikolaj Coster Waldau in the new FOX series, New Amsterdam. John is a brilliantly mysterious detective who happens to be immortal. Today, he is one of NYPD's greatest homicide detectives, but some three hundred or so years ago, he was a Dutch soldier in the colony of New Amsterdam. While there, he took the sword to save the life of a little Native Indian girl during a massacre of her tribe. In return, she cast an ancient spell on John, which made him immortal up until he finds his true love. New Amsterdam follows a man's triumphs and struggles as a man haunted by a spell that changed his life forever, literally.
