Last week, FOX's new, immortal-centric crime-solving drama,
New Amsterdam, debuted via two episodes on Tuesday and then again, on Thursday. Its Tuesday premiere won the 9pm time slot, making
New Amsterdam the second highest-rated show of the night, following
American Idol.
New Amsterdam drew in a total of 13.7 million viewers, successfully keeping 44 percent of
American Idol's lead-in 28.2 million. On its second broadcast Thursday evening,
New Amsterdam fell 20 percent from its numbers on Tuesday, managing to attract 10.6 million viewers as it went up against heavy favorite,
Lost.
Tonight,
New Amsterdam hopes to regain its audience with another new installment, the third in its current maiden season.
New Amsterdam returns this evening with its regular time period premiere at 9. In tonight's installment, a homeless veteran of the Gulf War, played by Orlando Jones, confesses to the gruesome murder of a controversial psychiatrist. Despite the admission however, John Amsterdam (
Nikolaj Coster Waldau) remains unsure and skeptical of the war vet's actual guilt.
Amsterdam digs deeper into the case, in the process, going over the deceased psychiatrist's about-to-be published book. While perusing the journal, the immortal detective can't help but wonder about the trustworthiness of memories and the reasons why people choose to bury them. Amsterdam questions whether the shrink may have been killed as a result of his own research.
In the midst of his investigation and quest for the truth behind the evidence, our hero also senses that he may be closer upon “the one” who is destined to open his heart and free him from his immortal life. Find out if the ageless crime-fighter is right in tonight's episode of
New Amsterdam entitled “Soldier's Heart.”
