As NCIS fans await the return of the procedural on September 23, the complete DVD of the fiftth strike-interrupted season of NCIS comes out today, August 26, to assuage their craving for the elite group at work.  The package contains all 19 broadcast hours, including the double-length finale, for a total of 835 minutes of Widescreen video and Surround Stereo audio collection.

The five-disc collection will include the following special features: cast and crew commentaries on some select episodes, requiem revisited, NCIS Season 5: Stem to Stem, The Dressing Room: The Costumes and Wardrobe of NCIS, NCIS on location, and a special one on controversial Pauley Perrette, From Pauley to Abby: Hairspray, Lipstick, and Tattoos.

Moreover, the collection calls the 5th season “marked by mysterious secrets among the cutting-edge crew, an explosive showdown with an elusive arms dealer,” along with a final episode which it described as “shocking” and “should not be missed.”

The Emmy-nominated police procedural follows a fictional team of special agents from the US Navy and the US Marines.  Initially part of the CBS series JAG, NCIS premiered on September 23, 2003, with some 11.84 million viewers.  Its ascent to become a ratings juggernaut was evident when its ratings continuously rose from season to season to reach 15.65 million in the most recent one. It was a top 10 program, despite competing against huge shows, such as FOX's American Idol.

Recently, it was revealed that main man Gibbs (Mark Harmon) will have a new team in the persons of Jonathan Magnum, Liza Lapira, and Jonathan LaPaglia.  This, after Michael Weatherly, Cote de Pablo, and Sean Murray were taken out of the storyline.  Also, Pauley Perrette was implicated in a harsh scandal with ex-hubby Coyote Shivers accusing her of orchestrating a grand plot to destroy him.
