The wait for the next season of Nashville
is almost over. While it was previously reported that Nashville would return for season 6 in January
, now a firm date has been announced. Over on the show's official Twitter page
, stars Hayden Panettiere and Jonathan Jackson announced that Nashville
season 6 will premiere on Thursday, January 4 on CMT.

season 5 was a huge year for the show. Not only did it nearly never happen, due to the show being canceled by original network ABC, Nashville
also killed off series regular and arguably the show's star, Connie Britton. While Britton's character, Rayna James, was absent from the second half of season 5, season 6 will be the first full year without Rayna or her acclaimed actress.
Still, there will be plenty of action to dive into when the show returns for season 6, most of it revolving around Nashville's remaining leading lady Juliette Barnes. Season 5 saw Juliette on the verge of yet another emotional breakdown. Season 6 will continue that story with Juliette withdrawing (yet again) from her baby and her husband, Avery.
season 6 will also continue to deal with the fallout from Rayna's death -- specifically how Rayna's death affects her record label, Highway 65, which was in great financial trouble when season 5 ended. The status of Highway 65 (and if it can recover from Rayna's sudden demise) will continue to be an ongoing storyline for season 6.
There will other (and newer) stories to explore as well, however. Following the same trend from season 5, Nashville
will bring in an influx of new actors and characters. As was previously reported Nashville
season 6 has added five new recurring roles which will surely pad out the story and cast quite a bit, opening up many new opportunities.
Fans might miss Rayna, but Nashville is making the most of its second lease on life over at CMT.
Are you excited for the show's return? Will you be tuning in? Do you think the show is better off without Rayna? Is it worse or just as good as ever? Tell us what you think in the comments!
