Russell Crowe to Play Robin Hood and the Sheriff in 'Nottingham'
Robin Hood hasn't fared well in modern adaptations.  Ever since Errol Flynn donned the green tights in The Adventures of Robin Hood in 1938 it has been downhill.  In the early nineties, Kevin Costner took over the iconic role and made the bold acting decision to use an American accent half the time.  That film was so bad that Mel Brooks spoofed it in the deliciously underrated Robin Hood: Men in Tights.  More than a decade later, and it Robin Hood is on his way back to theaters.  Ridley Scott (Aliens, Gladiator, a million other good to great movies) is bringing Mr. Hood back in a drastic re-imagination. Scott's Robin Hood film will be called, simply, Nottingham.

The film will apparently tell the story from the perspective of the famed Sheriff of Nottingham.  Russell Crowe has been tapped to play the lead role of the Sheriff for quite some time, and speculation has abounded since regarding who would play the Sheriff's foil, Robin Hood.  Today, Scott made the announcement: Russell Crowe, in addition to playing the Sheriff, will also play Robin Hood.  Um...what?  I'll let Ridley Scott explain.  During an MTV interview, Scott said that the dual roles will be “a good old clever adjustment of characters. One becomes the other. It changes.”
