When the WGA strike ends and television shows resume production,
Moonlight star
Shannyn Sossamon says she would like for the series to center more on the characters' backstories and less on procedural elements.
"I think there are too many procedural elements in the show," Sossamon told SCI FI Wire in an interview with
SCI FI Wire. "I don't think any of the audience members are sitting at home going, 'Gosh, I wonder what case Mick St. John's [
Alex O'Loughlin] going to have this week? I'm so curious.' No, you care about the other stuff."
While this is all well and good,
Moonlight has yet to get picked up for a full season or see a renewal, which means there is still a possibility the show may not return even if the strike comes to an end.
"[CBS President of Entertainment] Nina Tassler hasn't given us any more information,” Sossamon said. “CBS is the only network that hasn't said what they're going to do, with their green-lighting or whatever it's called, picking [it] up."
On the other hand, recent statements made by Tassler and CBS President and CEO Les Moonves indicate that the show has a good a chance of getting picked up and renewed for a second season.
In the meantime, fans can look forward to two new episodes of
Moonlight next year. Shannyn Sossamon, known as Mick's bloodsucking ex-wife who, after apparently dying in a fire, returns as a mortal woman, says that the upcoming installments will reveal how her character seemingly has found a cure for vampirism and become a mortal once again.
Viewers can also catch Shannyn Sossamon on the big screen early next year, as she appears on the upcoming horror/thriller,
One Missed Call. The film is based on 2003 movie Chakakushin Ari, which was directed by Takashi Miike. Sossamon plays Beth Raymond, a psychology student who investigates the death of a group of friends who received voice-mail messages in which they could hear their final words two days prior to their demise.
"I don't know if I turn it on or off so easy," Sossamon said of the intense moments between her costars on the set. "Something like this, the tension level has to be so high that I found it was actually difficult to get everyone to just, like, try to be not as tense as I had to be."
Moonlight returns with new episodes on January 4, the same day that
One Missed Call hits theaters.
