Sophia Myles

Date Of Birth

18 March, 1980

Biography

Born on March 18, 1980 in London, Sophia Myles spent her first eleven years in Notting Hill, where she grew up with her mother, an educational publisher, and her father, a Angelican vicar. The family later relocated to Isleworth in London, where she started acting in school plays. At the age of 16, she was discovered by Oscar-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes in a school production. Following her meeting with Fellowes, she was cast for a couple of plays which eventually led her to develop a passion for acting.

Sophia Myles' first major acting stint was for BBC's film, The Prince & The Pauper. Soon after its filming, she was offered numerous offers, including projects with movies. After taking on a role in the TV miniseries Big Women, she was cast in Mansfield Park as the character Susan Price. Her next role was as Johnny Depp’s wife in From Hell, a thriller released in 2001. This was followed by appearances on Heartbeat and Foyle’s War, as well as in the romantic comedy The Abduction Club. In 2003, Myles received a supporting role in the film Underworld, starring Kate Beckinsale. She also appeared in a flashback scene on the sequel, titled Underworld: Evolution. She next played the lead in Out of Bounds and was cast as Lady Penelope in 2004’s Thunderbirds. Two years later, she was given the role of the female lead opposite James Franco in Tristan Isolde. Myles was later seen on an episode of Doctor Who, as well as in Extras. Some of the TV movies she appeared in include Dracula, Covert One: The Hades Factor, Marple: Sleeping Murder, and Colditz. She later co-starred opposite English actor Max Minghella in the quirky comedy Art School Confidential. In 2007, Myles was cast as a replacement for Shannon Lucio on the CBS television drama, Moonlight. Her character is that of Beth Turner, an ambitious reporter who caught the eye of a vampire. That year, Myles received recognition for her role in Hallam Foe. She received a Best Actress Award from the British Independent Film Award committee as well as the BAFTA Scotland Award. In 2008, Myles landed a part in the sci-fi action film Outlander, starring James Caviezel and Jack Huston.
