Moonlight

Alex O'Loughlin will live to act another day.  The Australian actor is presently dealing with the unfortunate news that his vampire detective series Moonlight has been canceled by CBS.  Nevertheless, his agent Nathan Morris of June Cann Management remains confident that O'Loughlin won't be out of work for long.

"He has got a whole raft of things to read through - a role like this has definitely opened plenty of doors," Morris told news.com.au. "The key is to strike while the iron is hot."

Sure enough, O'Loughlin has already been cast in the upcoming movie Whiteout, which is a thriller adaptation of the 1999 Greg Rucka comic book.  The film revolves around U.S. marshal Carrie Stetko (Kate Beckinsale), who must investigate a murder in Antarctica within three days before the dark winter begins.  Stetko crosses paths with a U.N. operative (Gabriel Macht), who is also investigating the murder case.  As for O'Loughlin, he'll be playing a brazen pilot who gets in trouble with the marshal.  The film, which also features Columbus Short as a novice pilot who helps the marshal in the investigation, is directed by Dominic Sena and is expected to hit theaters in October.
As vampire detective Mick St. John, O'Loughlin has attracted various TV viewers that have now turned into a solid fan base.  Largely because of this, Moonlight won the People's Choice Award for “Favorite New TV Drama.”  Sadly, these were not enough to convince the network not to put a stake on the paranormal romance series.

At present, O'Loughlin is dealing with unemployment the best possible way.  The Moonlight actor has reportedly went on vacation to Mexico with his girlfriend Holly Vance, who previously guest starred on the vampire series as Lola.  The pair left Los Angeles last Thursday for a two-week getaway, immediately after the cancellation of Moonlight.
