'Moonlight' Stays Dead

moonlightIt appears as though the relentless fan campaign to bring Moonlight back to life has finally reached its turning point.  After news of a possible pick up by other networks such as The CW, the SciFi channel, and DirectTV, which have probably fostered false hope among fans of the vampire detective series, Mick St. John and the rest of the characters of Moonlight have now been buried to its final resting place.

Don’t shoot the messenger here, but Moonlight is over, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The sets of the paranormal romance series have now been dismantled in preparation for CBS’ upcoming drama The Mentalist, which stars Simon Baker as a detective who has a remarkable track record for solving serious crimes by using his razor sharp skills of observation.

As a show that has rapidly attracted a solid fan base, every option to keep Moonlight was reportedly explored.  Sources say that while there was significant interest from various parties, at the end of the day, it’s all about the numbers and the math did not compute.  Moonlight did farley well in its timeslot but didn’t do so well as compared to Ghost Whisperer, which aired on Friday nights at 8pm before Moonlight, or as well as Numb3rs, which aired at 10pm after it.

Moonlight ratings might have been suitable for another network, though there is still no guarantee the same number of viewers would have followed the show to a new home.

While this most certainly signals the end of Moonlight, this doesn’t stop diehard fans from dreaming that their beloved series will eventually be brought back to life.  You have to hand it to Moonlight viewers, even though the CBS drama was canceled more than a month ago, fans continue to put up a bloody good fight to save the show.

As a fan of Moonlight, are you still willing to fight to save the show?
Yes, I’ll continue to support fan campaigns.
I give up, Moonlight will never return.
I’ll just support the cast’s other projects.
