British Import Sophia Myles Basks in the Glow of 'Moonlight'

One of the finer points on CBS' new series, Moonlight, is the presence of British actress Sophia Myles.  Of course it doesn't hurt that the show is about vampires, but Myles seems to be like a breath of fresh air in any part she plays.  The vampire genre however, is close enough to the 27-year old actress' heart, having been in more than her fair share of fang-related projects.

On Moonlight, though, Myles is on the mortal side of things as the upstart young reporter who unwittingly becomes allied with a well-meaning, reluctant vampire crusading for justice.  The actress spoke last week to iFMagazine just as her new series debuted on television.

First off, Myles talked about what it's like being on the other side of the fence as a mortal woman on Moonlight, after being among the nightwalking undead on the TV movie, Dracula, as well as the two Underworld motion pictures.

“Well, I haven't been given it too badly yet, but it's still early in the series,” Myles remarked about playing the more vulnerable role of a human on the series.  “I have actually played a vampire twice.  I did Underworld and then I played Lucy in Dracula.  I got staked in the heart in that one but this time around it's nice just to play the normal person.  I like playing the regular girl.”

And as a regular girl on Moonlight, she's anything but regular as Beth Turner to series hero, the vampire Mick St. John, played by Alex O' Loughlin.  Though still terribly early in the show, Myles' Beth is definitely positioned as a romantic interest for the crime-solving creature of night.  As with Buffy and Angel or Buffy and Spike in Moonlight predecessors, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, against which Moonlight is inevitably compared, viewers will be anxious to know how far the chemistry will take the two characters.

“I don't know all of the rules yet, whether bodily fluids being exchanged leads to anything,” Myles offered with typically astute British humor.  “I think that the series is over the minute they get together - sort of like a Mulder and Scully thing.  At least that was my impression, but we'll see.”
