Around three months after being canceled in May, life goes on for the star of
Moonlight, the sci-fi series about hot vampires. After all,
Moonlight attracted a huge following for
Alex O'Loughlin, with some 7.5 million people tuning in week after week. The people over at CBS thought this wasn't good enough to renew the series for another season, but apparently, it's good enough reason to hold on to Mick St. John.
CBS has signed a one-year deal with
Moonlight hottie O'Loughlin and reportedly plans to give him a new show to be developed by Mark Gordon, the force behind hits
Desperate Housewives,
Army Wives,
Grey's Anatomy,
Criminal Minds, etc.
Moonlight executive producer Joel Silver recently announced that the show is over, and any plan to resurrect it is not true. The show had a huge fan base among the ladies, which prompted CBS to pattern the new series to the “actor-centric” character of
Moonlight. CBS Entertainment chief Nina Tassler, who herself admitted to being a fan of O'Loughlin, said the new series need to be so to attract the fans of the Australian actor from
Moonlight.
CBS also includes CBS Paramount TV and ABC Studios. O'Loughlin has also starred in
August Rush and
The Invisible.
Moonlight follows O'Loughlin's vampire private eye and his romance with a mortal, journalist Beth, played by
Sophia Myles.
A couple of weeks back, community site TV.com gave
Moonlight the award for Axed Before Its Time in the 2008 TV.com Awards, reflecting perhaps the overall distaste at the premature cancellation of the series. It likewise won the People's Choice Award Favorite New TV Drama for 2008. It drew a lot of negative criticisms, however, for “woeful acting” and “woeful writing.”
Moonlight also starred
Jason Dohring,
Shannyn Sossamon, and Brian White.
