ABC is making a lot of decisions about its shows these days. For some series, this is great news. For others, the news is less good. And for one series, Private Practice, the news means the end is near. When will Private Practice actually end? Which series can look forward to additional episodes this season? Keep reading to find out!
As was first reported by Deadline.com
, ABC has decided that Private Practice
will end after 13 episodes of its current season 6. The network and executive producer Shonda Rhimes apparently reached the decision to cancel the series on Friday, October 19, and the news leaked soon after.
The show, a spinoff of ABC's long-time hit, Grey's Anatomy
, has suffered from multiple cast departures in the past year. Tim Daly left at the end of season 5, and star Kate Walsh had announced that her character would no longer be a part of the show after episode 13 of the current season.
With the cancellation decision, this is now the end of Private Practice
The news out of ABC was much happier for a handful of other successful shows on the network. Grey's Anatomy
will have two extra episodes added to its current season (for a total of 24). Castle
, meanwhile, gets one extra episode (giving it 23 for the current season 5). The other series getting additional episode orders are comedies: Modern Family
and The Middle
will each have two extra episodes added to their current seasons.
ABC definitely seems to have been in decision-making mode. Two of its new fall dramas, 666 Park Avenue
and Last Resort
, also got added script orders on the same day.
The fates of all other ABC shows remain unknown at this time.
Will you be sorry to see the end of Private Practice
? Should the network have tried to keep it going, even without Kate Walsh? Are you happy about the additional episodes for the other shows? Leave your comments below!(Images courtesy of ABC)
