Natalie Morales may not have dreamed of becoming an actress during her younger years, but fate decided that she lands herself a role on one of the quirkiest television series today. Morales, who first appeared on television as a guest star in
CSI: Miami in 2005, landed her first major television role on ABC Family’s
The Middleman as Wendy Watson earlier this year. In fact, her accidental fall into the world of acting was in a summer class when she was younger. She took drama classes instead of photography, and since then, she was hooked. Now that she has successfully launched her career with
The Middleman, Morales shares a little bit of her insights about the industry with If Magazine.
In talking about her struggles with making it big in the industry, she says, “Prior to the Middleman, I [have been to] about 800 audition rooms, 75+ theatre auditions, a couple of plays, and in a few really bad student films.”
Nonetheless, Morales admits that she adores working on
The Middleman, which revolves around a wacky character who wards off evil to protect humanity. Morales fits into the picture as
The Middleman’s right hand.
“It feels like we’ve just created our own world just for us to play in. It’s probably the best job in the world,” Morales said of her work on the series.
Moreover, Morales says that her quirky character has evolved through such a short span of time, saying, “She has become a Middleman. Oddly enough, I don’t think its gender specific, despite the name.”
Additionally, she says that if ever the series would get picked up for another season, she and the rest of the production are ready for the craziness that it would entail. She admitted, “We’ve thrown around a ton of ideas. It will no doubt be a fun ride.”
Morales also says that in the next few episodes, viewers will get to see more of the personal side of Wendy. She says, “You’ll start to see different sides of Wendy and I’m pretty excited about that. And I don’t ever, ever want to imagine the Middleman’s personal life.”
Catch
The Middleman on ABC Family on Mondays at 10pm.
