The Golden Globes clearly loved the new shows of 2011. For this year's
Golden Globe Awards, 11 different shows that premiered this year scored
major nominations, including Showtime's
Homeland which scored three noms
and FOX's
New Girl which picked up two.
For dramas, the new show lovefest was evident as 11 of the 15 nominees are from freshman shows, including
American Horror Story,
Boss,
Game of Thrones and
Homeland.
The drama categories were also dominated by cable shows, with the Drama Series and Lead Actor races featuring only cable series. Julianna Margulies for
The Good Wife and Madeleine Stowe for
Revenge are the only two major network drama nominations. In fact, for all the TV series categories, only 12 of the 40 nominees came from the major networks.
On the comedy side, new shows were also embraced with HBO's
Enlightened, Showtime's
Episodes and FOX's
New Girl all scoring nominations for Comedy Series and for their leading performers. However, returning favorites like
Modern Family,
30 Rock and
Glee did pick up some nominations. However,
Glee failed to earn any individual acting nominations for its first time.
MY FIVEFAVORITE NOMINATIONS-Madeleine Stowe for
Revenge, a wonderfully soapy performance that I predicted as one of my wild cards (though I thought she was a supporting actress).
-All three
Homeland nominations, because it's a gripping show that was snubbed at the SAG Awards, so hopefully nominations for Drama Series and stars Claire Danes and Damian Lewis makes up for it.
-
New Girl, because while I knew Zooey Deschanel would get in, I'm equally excited that the show was also nominated.
-Idris Elba vs. Dominic West in the Lead Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries category, because it's insanely cool to see two stars from
The Wire going head-to-head.
-Jim Rash for the screenp0lay of
The Descendants, because a writing nomination for the man who plays Dean Pelton might be the closest
Community will ever come to an actual nomination.
MY BIGGEST SNUBS-No
Sons of Anarchy?
-No
Community?
-No
Justified?
-No
Breaking Bad for Drama Series?
-No
Parks and Recreation for Comedy Series or nomination for Nick Offerman?
-With all the love for new shows and Showtime, nothing for
Shameless?
