Anne Heche, star of the series
Men in Trees, is now vying for the custody of her five-year-old son Homer with estranged husband Coley Laffoon. Earlier this month, Laffoon has filed court papers in which he has questioned Heche’s psychological capability as a mother, and has requested for joint legal and primary physical custody of the child, $33,000 a month in child support and at least $15,000 in attorney fees.
In 2000, Heche dated cameraman Laffoon, whom she met while he was filming a comedy special for Heche’s then girlfriend Ellen DeGeneres. Heche and Laffoon married in September 2001, had a son named Homer in 2002 and filed for divorce in February 2007.
According to Laffoon, he finds the
Men in Trees actress to be bizarre and delusional in behavior, which has prompted him to ask that a psych evaluation “be commenced immediately.”
Based on the documents filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, Laffoon has cited many incidents about Heche’s odd behavior in the past. But for Heche, this is all just part of Laffoon’s counter strategy since she has refused to pay him the $45,000 a month he initially asked for.
"It is disappointing that Coley Laffoon has resorted to filing lies with the court because Anne would not cave in to his astronomical money demands. For the past several years, the father's child has refused to get a job in order to contribute financially to the child's care," according to the statement released by Heche’s publicist Lisa Kasteler.
Ironically, Heche has made claims in television interviews in the past, as well as in her autobiography entitled
Call Me Crazy, that she been mentally ill for the first 31 years of her life after being sexually harassed by her father. She has also claimed to have an alter ego named
Celestia, the daughter of God and half-sibling of Jesus who can communicate with extraterrestrial life.
