Allison DuBois may return to our TV screens earlier than expected.  NBC has ordered three more scripts of the psychic drama Medium and has told the production staff of the series to be on call to kick things off earlier than usual.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the midseason drama typically joins NBC's schedule during the winter, but the production has been told to be ready to go on the air earlier than expected, which means the series might join the network's lineup sometime before the end of the year.

Medium stars Patricia Arquette as Allison DuBois, Jake Weber as Joe DuBois, Miguel Sandoval as Manuel Devalos, David Cubitt as Lee Scanlon, Maria Lark as Bridgette DuBois, and Sofia Vassilieva as Ariel DuBois.  The Glenn Gordon Caron-created series, which is based on the experiences of self-proclaimed spiritual medium Allison DuBois, revolves around Arquette's character, who acts as a research medium for the Phoenix, Arizona, district attorney's office.

Meanwhile, Medium fans have plenty to look forward to as the series head to its fifth season.  As previously reported, Emmy and Tony-winning actress Blythe Danner will guest star in the new season.  Danner, whose credits include Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, and the upcoming Side by Each and The Lightkeepers, will appear in the episode called “A Taste of Her Own Medicine” as Sarah Leaming, a local councilman's wife and mother to a missing private nurse, whose extraordinary dedication to her chronically-ill step-daughter's care led to some unconventional measures.

"Continuing a tradition of asking world-class actresses to come join us on Medium, I am thrilled to announce that Blythe Danner will appear in one of the early episodes of Season 5," series producer Caron said in a statement.  "I have seen her work at Williamstown, on the Broadway stage, as well as on film and television and to finally have the opportunity to actually work with her is a real honor for me and an exhilarating treat for the cast."
