Last week, we reported that
Medium star
Patricia Arquette had decided to skip this year's Golden Globe Awards in light of the ongoing writers' strike. Since then, the awarding ceremonies have been called off anyway, along with the glitzy and star-studded afterparties that follow.
"I'm so glad I didn't have to worry about a dress," Arquette, herself one of the nominees, said in an interview with
NBC News. The actress joked that she'd be just as happy to be in sweats, sitting on her couch, watching last night's considerably downsized awards telecast.
Medium's resident psychic spoke with the
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette last Friday about being an actress in a celebrity-laden family, getting acting awards, seeing dead people and going to bed with
Jake Weber on
Medium.
According to Arquette, whose family includes other such famous actors as elder sister Rosanna, younger brother David and brother-turned-sister Alexis, her celebrity siblings are all very supportive of each other's careers and successes.
“David just directed another episode for us, and Rosanna is hopefully going to come on and do a guest spot,” Arquette said.
She also touched on the significance of accomplishments, particularly awards. While conceding that they're altogether that important, she did admit that they provide the kind of recognition she may not have experienced in the past.
“They were a nice surprise to have that kind of attention,” Arquette revealed. “I never really expected that and never really had that experience in my career, and I've been in the business for a long time.”
Despite years of paying her dues, Arquette only really began reaping nominations from the Emmys and the Golden Globes after assuming the role of Allison DuBois on
Medium. She talked about how playing a character who can see the dead has affected her life and perception of death.
“Honestly, since doing the show, I get so little sleep, I don't think I have dreams,” the actress, who also claims to believing in the afterlife, jested.
“I do believe that something happens. I know that Einstein says you can't destroy energy,” she said of her faith in life after death. “Oddly enough, a friend of mine got hit by a car when she was 12 and killed. A boy I knew saw it happen. He said he saw this girl get hit by a car and a streak of light leave her body. I kind of look at beings like they are energy. Maybe when we finish, we kind of explode like firecrackers [our energy] and it shoots off in all different directions.”
Aside from communing with the dead, another thing Arquette does a lot of on
Medium, is share a bed with her onscreen husband played by Jake Weber. She spoke about the time they spend together and what really goes on between the sheets.
“Yes, we do [spend a lot of time together in bed] and when we're tired we are ‘Thank God we're in the bed,' Arquette declared. “I have definitely done scenes where I have fallen asleep. Between rolling and action I have fallen asleep. Then they'll go, ‘Patricia, Patricia, action, action, ACTION.'
