After portraying Isabelle “Izzy” Huffstodt on the Showtime drama Huff, two-time Emmy winner Blythe Danner returns to the small screen to appear on the upcoming season of Medium.  The drama, which is based on the experiences from self-proclaimed spiritual medium Allison DuBois, was one of the first series to be renewed by NBC back in April after its fourth season pulled in strong ratings.

According to TV Guide, Danner will play Sarah Leaming, the mother of an MIA nurse, whose chronically ill stepdaughter is subjected to "unconventional" treatment.

Danner first gained national attention by winning the Theatre World Award for her performance in the Lincoln Center Rep's production of The Miser.  Eventually, she landed her first film role in Dr. Cook's Garden, which led to more movie projects.  Her more recent projects include Meet the Parents and its sequel Meet the Fockers where she worked with Robert De Niro, Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman, just to name a few.  From 2001 to 2006, she regularly appeared on Will & Grace as Will's (Eric McCormack) mother Marilyn, a role that won her an Emmy nomination.

"Continuing a tradition of asking world-class actresses to come join us on Medium, I am thrilled to announce that Blythe Danner will appear in one of the early episodes of Season 5," executive Producer Glenn Gordon Caron said.

Medium's notable guest stars in the past seasons included David Carradine, Adam Goldberg, Kelsey Grammer, Jason Priestley, Eric Stoltz, Kurtwood Smith, and Nancy Travis, just to name a few.

As of the press release, Medium will air Sundays at 9 pm beginning in early 2009.  The show stars Patricia Arquette as Allison DuBois, Jake Weber as Joe DuBois, David Cubitt as Lee Scanlon, Maria Lark as Bridgette DuBois, Miguel Sandoval as Manuel Devalos, and Sofia Vassilieva as Ariel DuBois.
