After the photo shoot, the models retire back to their new New York pad. They drink a little champagne and play one the dullest get to know you games ever. Sandhurst tells the group he's a ballet dancer, which has Jordan rightly worried. She think Sandhurst could go all the way to the end, and after seeing him in front of the camera we agree. Salome tells the group about her "almost Amish" raising and tells them her parents feel like she is going to hell for participating in such an industry.
The next morning the models are surprised by Nicole, who has the photos from their first shoot. Just as we thought Sandhurst looks gorgeous in his shot, Branden's look is surprisingly sultry, and Salome's photo is perfection. On the bad side of things, half of Amanda's face is covered by a shadow in her photo and Colin and Ken's looks like a night in a frat house gone horribly, awkwardly wrong. Nicole tells the models that each week a winner will be chosen based on their photo and will receive an invite to a go-see. On cue (or with some snappy editing) the phone rings and Salome is told she was this week's photo challenge winner and she'll be doing a go-see this afternoon. Salome endears us and rubs a little bit in her smack-talking partner's face, by declaring excitedly "I can't believe it! The fat girl won!" Unfortunately, Salome lost all my good will--and her housemates--with a thoughtless comment. Turns out Salome is allowed to bring another finalist to her go see, to which Salome says aloud "I'm going to pick someone who can't beat me" and proceeds to pick a housemate. Salome is certain she can beat out short, commercial cutie CJ but based on her snotty comment, we hope she gets her comeuppance.
Neither Salome or CJ perform well at their afternoon go-see. Salome walks like a dead fish, with no excitement --but will all the edge in the world. While CJ is just too short to even be considered for a high fashion runway show. The casting agent tells CJ she is more of a print model due to her height and that Salome needs to improve her walk before he would cast her. Back at the house it is time for the most cringe worthy part of each show: weekly measurements and weigh-ins. While I have no doubt this is a realistic part of the modeling industry, it seems cruel and unusual, especially considering the person doling out the critiques looks like a fat bald teletubby by his own admission. The gist of the weekly weigh in and measurements is that despite having nicer bodies than most of us could dream of, they still aren't ready for the world of fashion.
Finally it's time for the first runway challenge and I am excited to see what everyone can do on the runway. Mountaha starts the show off strong, she's a good poser and has the edgy look down perfect. Branden hunches forward and needs to learn to walk, but the clothes fit him beautifully. Gabriel continues his ongoing drug-addict theme, by walking the runway like he is stoned. Amanda, Shawn, and Karen are all sub-par walkers but could improve with teaching. Chris is the least energetic walker ever, he looks either half dead of completely disinterested. CJ serves some major attitude during her walk, a symbolic "f you" to the casting director that said she was too short do do runway. Ken and Colin's walks are just as painful and awkward as their photos, while Sandhurst's was graceful perfection. Kerryn has some ridiculous high fashion Christmas tree looking thing covering her shoulders and her head, but she manages to deliver a good walk. Jordan delivers the best walk of the evening, in the most outlandish outfit of them all...I am feeling super good about saying this girl will make it to the final two. Lastly, Salome appears to have taken the casting agents advice, and her walk looks markedly better than at her go see.
In general the judges seem impressed with the new crop of supermodel hopefuls. While the judges tell the other 10 they are safe, Chris, Jordan, Ken, Salome, Colin, and Sandhurst are kept on stage. Within this six are the strongest and weakest contestants. While my favorite girls, Jordan and Salome, are killing it--there's no way they are being sent home now; I am worried my favorite guy Colin is going to be sent home. The judges crown Jordan this week's winner based on her super strong runway and photo performance, this means Jordan will have immunity during next week's challenges. The second strongest of the week is Sandhurst, who I gravely underestimated. The bottom three, are as they should be Colin, Chris, and Ken. The judges say Chris is not confident enough on the runway and is too submissive, Colin just doesn't know what he is doing, and Ken lacks spontaneity, charm and emotion. Colin is told he's safe, and hopefully improves with training. It's down to Chris and Ken, who are both unconventional male models, albeit for very different reasons. In the end, it's Ken and his beefy frame and rock and roll dreams who is sent packing, while girly-guy Chris survives to walk another runway.
