Exclusive Interview: Jacki Hydock of 'Make Me A Supermodel'
Friday, February 29, 2008

Jacki HydockJacki Hydock started off the season of Make Me A Supermodel as the one to beat.  She immediately wowed everyone with her runway walk and her fierce look.  She proved herself to be a very hard worker, persevering in last week's photoshoot with the snake in the water tank in order to get a decent shot.  However, the judges decided that she was not living up to the potential that they knew she had and put her up for the vote.

Jacki spoke to BuddyTV today and shared her opinion on why the female competitors are falling behind their male counterparts on Make Me A Supermodel, about her most challenging photo shoot, and she also brought to light the tensions she had been having with fellow model Perry Ullmann.  Below, you will find an audiofile and a transcript of the interview.

Hey everybody. This is Debbie at BuddyTV, and I'm talking to Jacki from Make Me A Supermodel. Hey, Jacki, how's it going?

I'm good. How are you, Debbie?

I'm good. What was going through your mind when you found out that you got eliminated?

Oh my gosh. I was prepared for both. You know, I was preparing for good and bad news. But, I wasn't looking at it in a bad way. I was just hoping that if I did go home, that this is just the beginning for me. I was just anticipating a good outcome no matter what.

You know, now that you're gone, there are only two women left in the competition, and I was wondering what your opinion was on why the men seem to be dominating.

I don't necessarily think the men have been dominating. It's just that the girls have been going out faster. It's a diverse audience. Whatever the audience is, whoever it's appealing, it seems like the men are appealing more. But I told the two girls, "You guys better tough it out." Because it's going to be hard, it was hard with the ratio of girls to guys. It's kind of like a battle of the sexes now, but I told the two girls, "You guys got to tough it out, just stick it in, don't get discouraged, just keep going."

Yeah. My theory is that the show is on Bravo and, you know, the audience of Bravo is like women and gay men who might prefer the men more.

Yeah. Well, it's so reassuring because we have so many fans. All of us do. And there's a lot of younger teenage girls that just love the boys. If I was watching the show too, and I would be like, "Oh my God, this boy's really cute, this boy's really cute." And that's just the way it is, but we all have a ton of fans and they've been so supportive, so I don't look at it in a bad way at all.

What was the most challenging photoshoot that you had to do?

The most challenging photoshoot, I would say, was with Stephanie on week three when we had to do the chemistry. That was just...oh my God. It was a nightmare for me. I was not expecting to do a photoshoot with a girl so that was very, very challenging.

And describe last week's photoshoot, in the water tank with the snake. How was that?

Oh, wow. Being in the tank with the snake was actually really cool. I love reptiles and so I was excited to be in there. It was more challenging than it seemed, though, just because the way that I was positioned, I had to keep my body horizontal. And that's so much harder than keeping it vertical, so it was just so much to be aware of. It was very, very challenging, but it was really fun for me.

Cool. And now, after watching some of the episodes, it looks like there's some tension between you and Perry. Can you just tell us what's going on between you guys?

Actually, there's no tension. I think it kind of started when we were playing the game and he gave me the sticker "You're least likely to win the show." But I didn't take that personally. I mean, it's just an opinion. I think, just in general, living with so many boys is hard. They're messy and things like that, and it's hard. Shannon and I, we talked to the boys about trying to clean up after themselves and things like that, but there's no tension. I think a lot of it kind of came out in our photoshoot that we had during week six, I believe, when it was Perry, Ben and I in the shoot. We were just going with it. Everything he was saying to me, I was just saying it back, but we were having fun with it.

Yeah, that looked pretty intense.

Yeah, that was ridiculous. That was so intense for me. But in between frames, we would just laugh about it because I was just amazed by the things that were coming out of my mouth. So, yeah, we just laughed it off. But no, it's tough because I was up against Perry and Ben, and we did the photoshoot together the previous week, and I know how the two of them work. And being up against them in elimination, I know that they are strong performers as well as myself. But I think, coming down to it, that strong performers are going to go home because there is only one winner.

What do you think your strength is as a model?

One of my biggest strengths, which is what got me here, is just my drive and ambition. I'm not satisfied with less than 100 percent. I can't do that. And it's just being strong. You have to be strong and you can't let things break you down. And the biggest thing for me, what I want to do when I leave here—this is just the start for me. So, I don't look at it in a negative way at all, being eliminated. You know, I would have liked to hold on a lot longer, but I think that everything happens for a reason. So, my strength is definitely my ambition and drive. It's important to have.

Do you think that the exposure that you got on the show is going to help you out in the future?

I hope so. I sure hope so. Absolutely. I think it's just been a blessing to this far, that I've gone, just to go this far. From day one, coming into New York and seeing myself on busses and at bus stops to being told that I'm in magazines and stuff, I mean, God, in eight weeks that's just an amazing stretch for me. And I hope that it continues, just to be more. I'm so thankful to be here and have this opportunity. This is my dream that I've always wanted, so any exposure I get to get me to where I want to be is...I can't ask for anything more.

And what about the other models? Of all the remaining models, who do you think has the best chance of winning the show?

I think that—and I'm not just saying it because I'm a girl—I think that, especially because Shannon and Holly are the two girls left in the house, they are both very, very good performers. I think they have a good chance. And I also think Ronnie does, especially because he has that audience, the gay audience, he's got a ton of audience. That's my top three.
