The dark horse of the season, Branden Rickman won Make Me a Supermodel and pleasantly shocked the fans. The young and struggling model went home with all the prizes, from the cash to the contract, in addition to plenty of experience in the modeling industry. On his interview with TV Guide, the 18-year-old discussed his time on the reality competition and why he was surprised by his win.
"I was so excited!" Rickman said. "It was just crazy. I did not think I was going to win at all. I really underestimated myself, but it all turned out great in the end."
Branden was also known for suffering from bouts of self-confidence issues. He hit an all-time low before going over the top with cockiness, but he eventually found the balance in the end. What was difficult for the Make Me a Supermodel
winner was what he heard from the judges.
"All the critiquing the judges did was pretty hard," Branden admitted. "But now, I'm very open to things, and I don't take things to heart anymore. I was very sensitive. And now, I just don't care -- it's whatever."
This only led him to mature throughout the season, something that really stands out in the whole experience he had on the second installment of the competition. According to Branden, his transformation was very welcome.
"I changed from being, like, a really immature teenage boy in high school when you don't care what you say, [to where] I now watch what I say and have a lot more respect for other people. I opened my eyes. I was away from my mom and it got me to feel what it was like to be away from her and live on my own."
Now that he's through with the Make Me A Supermodel
chapter of his life, there's so much to look forward to regarding his career. Since he already has the money for a future, Branden is making big plans. "Next, I'm moving to New York and pursuing my supermodeling career. I'm using the prize money for the move, and I'm going to buy my mom a car."
