The penultimate episode of
Make Me a Supermodel was a no-brainer. The final four consisted of two guys with amazing bodies, one woman who outshined all the others, and a dude who loves boobies and cut his testicles. Everyone knew exactly what would happen. Jonathan, Sandhurst and Mountaha would make it to the finals and Branden, the lone American, would finally be eliminated after landing in the bottom for most of the season.
But that's not what happened. And I was as shocked as the person who was eliminated.
The final moments came down to Branden and Mountaha. Since no one
expected an all-male finale, Branden was the logical choice to be
eliminated. But when Tyson Beckford told him he was safe, Mountaha's
jaw dropped and she began to cry. It was as shocking a moment as the
show could've come up with.
I don't want to take anything away from Branden. While he may not be
as cut or well-defined as Jonathan or Sandhurst, he does have the lean
figure that some male models succeed with. And in terms of growth, no
one has made more strides than Branden, mostly because he started out
as just some random good-looking dude who thought he was hot enough to
be a model because he could always pick up any girl he wanted.
But the shock is still there, especially based on the episode's photo
shoot. The models had just a small window of time to pose as
pyrotechnics were set off behind them. Branden yelled even though the
photographer explained to him why he shouldn't, and the photos were so
bad that his official shot was from the moment just before the
pyrotechnics went off.
It was one in a long series of sub-par Branden photographs, but I guess
the confidence of spending most of the day in a suit helped his
sophisticated runway. The result is three men battling it out for the
victory while Mountaha is left with the consolation prize that she was
the last woman standing.
While her elimination was shocking, it doesn't change much. Ever since
Jordan crashed and burned, Jonathan and Sandhurst have been head and
shoulders above everyone else in the competition and even if Mountaha
was still around, the chances of her winning were slim-to-none. This
is between Jonathan and Sandhurst, and the only thing Branden can hope
for is that the final photo shoot doesn't involve swimwear or being
shirtless..
