TV Lovers of The Devil are going to get a little bit less of the fallen angel than they expected. TVLine reports
that FOX has cut the episode order of Lucifer
season 2 from 22 episodes down to just 18. Before you freak out, the final four episodes will still be seen, it will just a much longer wait for them to air.

It's never great for a TV show's episode order to be cut and often it can be a sign the show is heading to cancellation. This is not the case with Lucifer
. Season 2 was always imagined to be an 18-episode season. The four episodes to close out the season were intended to be a standalone adventure. Now those episode will be incorporated into Lucifer
season 3, which is still happening and is set to premiere next fall on FOX.
's co-showrunner Joe Henderson took to his Twitter account
to explain the reasoning behind the episode cut and assure fans that everything is still OK between the network and the series. "We designed this season to be an 18 episode arc because we originally were going to be 18 episodes. But then we got 4 more! Surprise!" Henderson wrote. "So we decided to create four episodes that let us play around a bit. Dig deeper into the character stories, play with format a bit, etc. We didn't know whether they'd air this season or next until now. Now we do. So bad news is you need to wait for them. And I know that sucks."
The potential bright side is that season 3, which was announced back in February
, might have more than the previously planned 22 episodes. Henderson told fans that season 3 will have "at least" 22 episodes but it may have as many as 26 or 24.
Henderson went on to add that the network "loves" Lucifer. The reason for the episode order being cut is that FOX didn't have any place to air the episodes before next fall. Season 2 will play out exactly as they always planned, Henderson continued, and he promised that it will be "CRAZY awesome."
