In Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars week 6, history repeated itself. Unfortunately. Despite high scores and a couple of weeks of brilliant performances, one of the show's best celebrity dancers went home. It doesn't seem to make sense. It's the kind of thing that isn't supposed to happen.
So why did Sabrina Bryan and Louis Van Amstel have to go?
Never Forget, It's a Popularity Contest
Answer truthfully: Other than her appearances on Dancing with the Stars, do you know who Sabrina Bryan is? Sure, she was involved in something called the Cheetah Girls, but even that name is but a vague recollection. Sabrina Bryan is far from being a household name.
You could say that other celebrities on this season have a similar problem, but at least the sources of their various fames are familiar. Other than her stint on those Bachelor shows, Melissa Rycroft isn't so famous. But she was the star of one of reality TV's biggest success stories. Kirstie Alley is a household name. Everyone knows about the Olympics. Soap opera fans are legendary for their dedication. And, quite frankly, Gilles Marini is on pretty much every show on television at this point.
Sabrina Bryan also wasn't the most charismatic of DWTS celebrities. A nice girl, sure. But she isn't the one you want to watch. And that was enough to go home when the competition got this tough.
In almost every season of Dancing with the Stars, there is a shocking elimination. Someone with high scores goes home, seemingly out of nowhere. That's where the votes come in. If someone gets nearly perfect scores, they don't need support, right?
Obviously, that theory doesn't always work. Unfortunately for Sabrina.
She Had Her Chance
Sabrina Bryan was the fan pick to come on Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars. People wanted to give the girl a second chance. And she got it.
After that, some fans might have felt that they did enough. Sabrina was on the show again, and it was up to her from that point onward.
Really, Who Else Was Going to Go?
This was a tough couple of weeks to judge. Any elimination was going to be at least a bit of a surprise.
Kelly and Val may have had the lowest scores overall in the two weeks, but they did stage a comeback in week 6. Apolo and Karina had the same trajectory. Kirstie and Maks were surprisingly on fire. And everyone else just showed up to give their normal level of dancing excellence. Even rampant injuries failed to slow down anybody.
There was no easy choice about who should go home. And in such a situation, why shouldn't Sabrina Bryan and Louis Van Amstel leave?
Someone had to.
Did you think Sabrina was the right choice to be eliminated? Were you surprised by that choice? Who would you have sent home? Leave your comments below!
