The people who handle the casting for Lost
deserve every award imaginable. Toss them Emmys, Oscars, Grammys, Tonys, Pulitzers, and whatever else is lying around. The characters on the show are brilliantly written, but it's the flawless casting that helps make even the most minor characters memorable. Lost
is the type of show where a seemingly throwaway character from season 2 could show up again in season 5 and play an important role in the mythology. Most fans would recognize that minor character in a heartbeat, because the actors always have a certain something that makes them stand out.
According to Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly
, the brilliant casting people are currently trying to fill two important roles for season 5. Read on for the descriptions of these new characters.
This should come as no surprise on Lost
, but both characters will be mysterious and quite deadly. The first one is a man with a dark past named Caesar, who Ausiello describes as "a dangerous, physical and extremely intelligent male between the ages of 35 and 45. Although his intentions are unclear, this much is certain: He's as skillful at charming people as he is at killing them."
The other new addition is a woman named Ilanna, who is described as "a European female in her late 20s to early 30s who possesses great intelligence, but who's also dangerous as all get out. She's alluring and apparently used to getting her own way."
These characters sound like exciting new additions to the series, but who could they be? Caesar may be the former leader of the Others that Ben hinted at last season, or he could be another of Charles Widmore's men searching for the island, a la Keamy. Maybe he'll be part of the new Dharma Initiative, which is rumored to be reforming in season 5. There are numerous possibilities, but those are the first few that spring to mind.
As for Ilanna, she does sound a little bit like Danielle Rousseau, doesn't she? Lost
execs Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse announced at Comic-Con that we would be getting Rousseau's back story in season 5, so maybe they're looking for a younger actress to play the character in flashbacks. That's my hope, but she could also serve a completely different purpose.
Based on the descriptions, who do you think these characters are? Who would you cast to play them? Sound off below.
