Jeremy Davies as
Daniel Faraday Born Jeremy Boring on October 8, 1969 in Traverse City, Michigan, Jeremy Davies adapted his mother's maiden name as his screen name. He grew up in Traverse City with his mother, and moved to Kansas with his mother following his parents' divorce. His mother eventually died of complications from lupus and Davies went to live with his father and step-mother in Santa Barbara, California.
Davies began acting in the early 1990s, performing on two episodes of
The Wonder Years . He also worked on the Showtime thriller Guncrazy and appeared as guest on Melrose Place. In 1993, he garnered attention after appearing in a television commercial for Subaru. Several casting directors contacted him to work on feature films. He then re-launched his acting career with films such as Twister. By 1998, he landed the role of Timothy E. Upham in Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan, where he starred alongside Matt Damon and Tom Hanks. Davies' performance was applauded by many, and he went on to work on many other films, including Solaris with George Clooney.
In 2008, Davies was cast for the role of Daniel Faraday in the fourth season of ABC's Lost.
In an interview with UniverCity Magazine, Davies talked about the roles he decided to play in his past projects, saying, "I think it's important to say that first of all as an actor, like myself, starting out, you don't have much control. You don't have much choice. These roles certainly I didn't choose in terms of that these were never offered to me, but I was drawn to them. They presented certain complexity, a richness that you don't find a lot. I'm certainly not drawn to your typical hero or boy next door or anything else that we're overtly familiar with. I'm mainly drawn to other subsets - different characters that we're not apparently that close to. It's potent for me."
