Format: In this option, season 5 would begin right when season 4 left off, in the funeral parlor.  This allows the Oceanic 6 story to be the jumping off point, which is logical.  The stuff we see on the island would, therefore, begin concurrently, in the aftermath of Locke's departure from the island. 

Structurally, this could make sense.  The on-island characters could flash back to what went wrong during Locke's reign as leader of the Others.  It would increase the mystery too, leaving the audience guessing as to why island life has become what it is.  It would cut down on Terry O'Quinn's screen time, presumably, but he'd get some during the flash backs.  The big problem here is that it wouldn't make sense to see any flash forwards, a device that Darlton has claimed will be used liberally next season.
