So just where is the island?  We know that even God, according to Ben, cannot see it.   Desmond, a seasoned sailor, was unsuccessful in sailing away from it, but had no problem crashing there.  So far, unless you crashed by pure happenstance the only way the island seems accessible is by submarine.  More recently, Naomi and her mysterious people were unable to physically reach the island, and it took bundles of Penny’s money and a couple chilly guys in an arctic listening post to even find the island.

The first indication we received of the island's remoteness spawned what has become the mantra for those trapped on the island; at the end of the LOST pilot, after learning a distress call had been playing for sixteen years unanswered, Charlie fatefully asked, “Guys, where are we?”
