Over at Flocke's Camp, Sayid brings Flocke to Desmond, who is acting very strange. He's calm and still, thinking the man he's talking to is John Locke. Flocke seems a bit confused and concerned He takes him on a trip and they run into the creepy Boy in the Jungle last seen in "The Substitute." Flocke wants to ignore him, but Desmond is intrigued.
They get to a well and Flocke explains that a long time ago, compasses
would go crazy over certain areas, so people would dig to find the
cause. Desmond goes along with this, and Flocke gets a little concerned
that Desmond isn't scared at all. Maybe he should be, because Flocke
throws him into the well.
Flocke returns to his camp where Hurley arrives, offering a peace.
Flocke agrees, so Lapidus, Sun and Jack join Team Flocke.
In the Altverse
Dr. Pierre Chang narrates a video tribute to the life of Hugo Reyes, a
philanthropist who has donated a new Paleontology Wing to the museum
Miles' dad works at. He's happy, but his mom is still upset that her
little boy doesn't have a girlfriend. There's just no pleasing some
people. She sets him up on a blind date with the daughter of Hugo's
grandpa's neighbor.
He goes, and just when it looks like he's been stood up, he gets a
female caller in the form of Libby. She's got crazy hair and starts
talking about soulmates, also wondering why Hugo doesn't remember her.
Just then, Dr. Brooks from Santa Rosa picks her up and takes away in the
group van. This is instantly cool and raises thousands of very
interesting possibilities.
Hugo drowns his sorrows in a bucket of chicken when Desmond stops by to
perk him up and offer some advice. Maybe Hugo should give the crazy
lady a shot to see why she thinks she knows him.
He takes the advice and visits Santa Rosa, for the first time. In order
to get in to see Libby, he offers to by a $100,000 rec room. Once
inside, Libby explains that a few days ago she saw his commercial and
she saw visions of an alternate reality where they were in a plane crash
and fell in love. He still doesn't remember, but a love bomb is
detonated in the nut house and Hugo agrees to take the psych patient out
on a date.
They go on a picnic on the beach, and I'm no ashamed to admit I let out
an audible "Aww" when I saw it. This picnic is three and a half seasons
in the making. She kisses him, and the liplock causes Hugo to see
flashes of his alternate universe love affair with the real Libby.
Desmond watches on from his car and smiles, since his work is done.
But Desmond's work in the episode isn't over yet. He goes to a school
where Ben suspects him of loitering. Desmond claims he's looking for a
school for his son Charlie. Then he steps on the gas and runs over John
Locke. First an explosion kills Ilana, then the Black Rock explodes,
then Desmond is thrown down a well, now Desmond runs over Locke? This
episode was action-packed and full of huge events. The dynamite
definitely went boom.
Next week on
Lost: Locke is taken to the hospital in the
altverse, and the trailer features Gene Wilder's crazy speech from the
psychedelic boat scene in
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Either that, or someone slipped me some LSD during the episode and I
hallucinated it.
